At The Beach, A Wild Seal Is Completely Obsessed With Everyone
Will Badman went to Weymouth Beach in Dorset, England, early one morning, but not to see the dawn. He was on the lookout for Sammy, a friendly seal who had been living on the shore for the past nine weeks.
Sammy first arrived on the beach during the height of the quarantine, when few people were outside. It appeared to be the ideal spot for the baby seal to fish while relaxing on the sand.
As the limitations were eased and the weather warmed, Sammy’s beach became increasingly crowded, which he didn’t appear to mind in the least.
In fact, he appeared to be on a mission to make acquaintances.
“Sammy has a propensity of unexpectedly appearing on people and attempting to climb onto their surfboard, kayak, or people’s backs while swimming,” Badman told The Dodo. “When he walks onto the beach to relax, he seems to enjoy the cameras.”
Badman used a long lens to picture Sammy during his visit so he wouldn’t have to approach too near, but the seal appeared to be aware that he was the center of attention. He mugged for the camera by waving, smiling, and sticking out his tongue while he played hide-and-seek with the photographer.
Sammy adores hitching rides on paddleboards when he gets bored of swimming. He’ll be able to warm up and rest without having to swim back to shore.
Sammy seems to enjoy the companionship and would frequently snuggle up to the riders.
To defend Sammy, who has now become a local star, a group of volunteers has formed. Even though the young seal appears to be nice, he is still a wild animal that should not be approached or messed with (despite his best efforts). People should keep a safe distance from the animal, restrain their dogs, and avoid approaching it.
Sammy continues to enjoy his temporary home and thrill everyone who visits thanks to the volunteers.
Badman remarked, “He was fantastic to see and is not something we generally get in this part of the UK.” “I drove an hour to visit him, and it was definitely worth the trip.”
